Needed: Debate Club Judges on Saturday Jan. 16, 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.

No experience necessary, must be 15 or older – qualifies for service hours! Parent, friend, and neighbor volunteers are welcome, too! Tournament is at John Hay Elementary on Queen Anne. Orientation materials will be sent by email, and a half-hour training for volunteer judges starts at 8:30am on tournament day. Each judge evaluates two teams of 2 kids in two rounds. We also need volunteers to monitor sign-in, snack table, and make copies. Debate Club is sponsored by Successful Schools in Action, www.schoolsinaction.org, and is for 4^th & 5^th graders of Blaine, Lawton, Coe, and Hay Schools. Reptile Man Coming to Magnolia

Reptile Man will be performing an evening event at 7:00 pm for the Magnolia and Queen Anne communities. Come enjoy an evening of entertainment with Reptile Man, his Albino Snake, lizards, turtles, gators and much much more…. $ 5.00 per person or $20.00 per family. ($ 2.00 – Reptile Man Admission fee, and a suggested donation of $3.00 for 7^th grade camp.) This event is brought to you by the Blaine 7^th grade as a fundraiser. All 7^th graders will be going to the Olympic Park Institute (OPI ) this coming April. Thank you for your support and enjoy an evening out with your family and friends! Baked goods, water and coffee will also be available for purchase.

Please join Seattle Public Schools instructional leaders to learn more about the work of aligning curriculum. We’ll discuss our alignment work and provide more information about the upcoming instructional materials adoption for high school Language Arts courses to be followed by adoptions for World Languages and Social Studies for 4^th and 8^th grades. Ramona Hattendorf, President of the Seattle Counsel PTSA and Lawton mom, gave a presentation at the general PTA meeting last Thursday evening explaining the Washington State PTSA’s position the upcoming education levies. If you have any questions for Ramona, please email her at ramona1030@clearwire.net. Also, click here to view the slideshow produced by Schools First! in support of the upcoming levies. If you can’t view Powerpoint, email Ramona for a hard copy. Regardless of how you decide to vote, just VOTE. Ramona pointed out that only 30% of parents vote in the state of Washington. Let’s do something about that!
