Our P.E. Program

The physical fitness of our students is a priority, and our physical education program is a cornerstone of the Lawton experience.

Distinguishing characteristics of this program include:

  • An award winning P.E. teacher with 17.5 years at Lawton: Cheryl Parks received the prestigious 2005 Washington Coalition for Promoting Physical Fitness Award and the 2003 Recipient of the King County Coalition for Physical Activity’s “Physical Education Excellence Award.”
  • A success-oriented physical education program with an emphasis on cooperation, lifetime health and fitness, and motor skill development which is achieved through sports skills, cooperation, and individual success in a non-threatening environment, and skill based portfolio assessments for intermediate students.
  • Using the new Health and Fitness Curriculum Five for Life
  • Fun and varied activities including yoga, roller skating, rock climbing, juggling, jump roping, gymnastics, fencing and unicycling… just to name a few.
  • After school P.E. clubs such as beginning and advanced unicycle riding, yoga, hip hop dance and jump rope
  • P.E. three times a week for all classes for a total of 90 minutes.
  • The designated off-site extension for Seattle Pacific University student-teachers.
  • Our very own gym and health newsletter, the “Gymnewsium” written by Ms. Parks & Ms. DeJong to share information with students and parents.
