Our P.E. Program
The physical fitness of our students is a priority, and our physical education program is a cornerstone of the Lawton experience.
Distinguishing characteristics of this program include:
A strong commitment to Physical Education with a highly qualified Physical Education Specialist. Cheryl Parks is an award winning P.E. who has been at Lawton since 1993. She received the prestigious 2005 Washington Coalition for Promoting Physical Fitness Award and the 2003 Recipient of the King County Coalition for Physical Activity’s “Physical Education Excellence Award.”
A success-oriented physical education program with an emphasis on cooperation, lifetime health and fitness, and motor skill development which is achieved through sports skills, cooperation, and individual success in a non-threatening environment, and skill based portfolio assessments for intermediate students.
Supplements the P.E. program with the district adopted Health and Fitness Curriculum Five for Life.
Fun and varied activities including yoga, roller-blading, archery, juggling, jump roping, gymnastics, fencing and unicycling… just to name a few.
After school P.E. enrichment classes such as beginning and advanced unicycle riding, yoga, running, beginning and intermediate tumbling and ZumbAtomic.
All students receive P.E. three times a week for 30 minute classes all year. At 90 minutes a week, our school is close to the 100 minutes required by the state.
