Welcome Lawton’s New Principal: Christine Helm

Lawton extends a warm welcome to our new principal, Miss Christine Helm.  We are very pleased to have Principal Helm on board and look forward to the coming year under her leadership.  The Lawton Community is invited to attend a Meet & Greet with Principal Helm on Tuesday, August 24th from 6-7 PM in the Lawton Commons.  Hope to see you there!

Dr. Goodloe-Johnson’s letter to the Lawton community:

We believe that Ms. Helm’s extensive elementary teaching experience and her strong educational leadership have made her an excellent match for the Lawton learning community.  She has worked in SPS for the past six years as a classroom teacher, literacy coach, principal intern and reading specialist, and is committed to academic success for all children.

Ms. Helm taught grades 1 and 3 at Highland Park Elementary and Catherine Blaine K-8, and she also spent three years as a kindergarten and grade 2 teacher in NYC Public Schools.  In addition to her classroom experience, she worked to improve instructional leadership and teacher practices as literacy coach and served as a principal intern/reading specialist at Roxhill Elementary.

Her professional preparation includes a bachelor of arts in business administration from Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire, a masters in elementary education from City College In NYC, and a masters in educational leadership and policy studies from UW.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank your interim principal, Kathy Bledsoe, for her commitment to students, staff, and families.

I especially appreciate the positive learning community that you have built at Lawton Elementary, and I look forward to continued success for all students.

Sincerely,

Dr. Maria Goodloe-Johnson
